Congress has never passed a resolution and no president ever said genocide during the annual April proclamation marking Armenian Remembrance Day. If you remember Candidate Barack Obama pledged recognition for the Armenian plight. The bigger problem is Turkey made a side deal with Brazil and Iran over trading nuclear fuel undermining sanctions by the United Nations. There is also the issue of vocal support by Turkey about its relations with neighboring Iran simultaneous with diminishing relations with one-time ally Israel. President Obama is in tough shape over this one as relations with Turkey could go either way and to take on the issue of a genocide resolution in order to get Riccardione confirmed seems unwarranted based on the bigger picture. It is to bad this administration of Ivy League elitist do not have any people in the administration with world standing as the reason there is respect or dialog is the world knows President Obama and his administration as not ready for prime time and this is another example.

We were told if we pump 787 Billion dollars into the economy in the dead of night in early 2009 we would never see unemployment over 8%. That was wrong and the person that said it is leaving. So is it any surprise that 18 months later that New applications for unemployment insurance rose to their highest level in almost six months. First time claims for jobless benefits edged up by 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 484,000, while of course analysts had expected a drop. This is the highest total since February and initial claims have risen three of the last four weeks. We are only 6,000 applications away from the high point of the year. Back in January, we peaked at 490,000. Is it no wonder Tuesday the Federal Reserve lowered its assessment of the recovery? The focus of this President should not be vacations, running around the country campaigning, or fighting for global warming bills. The only thing on his desk should be ideas on job creation as we are falling down again. The difference is this time he and lame stream media cannot blame Bush. We are also hopefully not going to fall for another American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which we knew was not going to work. These pages said back then it would have been wiser and went further to give each American tax payer a credit card to by items and jump start the economy that way then this failed piece of legislature.

We did the annual trip to Storyland in Glen New Hampshire. There is not much to report in the way of changes except the cost increased. A day of fun is now $27 up from last years $25. They still have the deal where if you go to the park after 3pm and buy a full admission you can come back the next day free. The park is open until 6pm every night so we decided to go on a Thursday and Friday. The cost of the food is expensive and not greatest. The children are getting older and we are not sure how long this will still be a fun time. They were usually the tallest children waiting in line for rides. They do have a few rides for bigger kids but once your child is nine or ten we do not think this place will seems as much fun and more lame. There is probably a lot better use of $108 for a family of four if your kids are older. If you have toddlers, the place is great as there is plenty to do and even though it seems crowded, you never have to wait long for anything. There is live entertainment at the park and this year an unnamed girl singer was extremely impressive. These kids sing all day as they move from venue to venue-changing characters. We had a fun couple of days at the park and spent money on food, gift shop, photos, as the couple of days with hotel cost use around $400.

When it comes to the United States economy the number do not lie and they tell an ugly picture. The problem is these ugly numbers are not getting better. We find today the U.S. trade deficit surged in June to the highest level since October 2008 and imports of foreign consumer goods hit an all-time high. This is compounded by exports declining and another setback for American manufacturers. The deficit jumped 18.8 percent in June compared to May, widening to $49.9 billion, the Commerce Department reported. Exports slipped 1.3 percent to $150.5 billion. This story will not be in the New York Times or the Boston Globe as they believe everything is turning around. The turn around is the deficit in goods and services rose to the highest level since October 2008 when it was at $59.4 billion. Through the first six months of this year, the deficit is running at an annual rate of $494.9 billion. That is up 32 percent from the $374.9 billion deficit for all of 2009. The wider deficit in June will drop U.S. growth measured by GDP which was estimated at 2.4 percent for the second quarter. For June, the U.S. trade deficit with China rose 17.4 percent to $26.2 billion. This number had been steady at 15.9 percent for the first half of the year.

In fairness to Bennet he was only appointed last year after predecessor Ken Salazar became Interior Secretary. This is the match up and it appears to be a good one as Weld County prosecutor Republican Tea Party candidate Ken Buck versus former superintendent of Denver Public Schools appointed Senator Michael Bennet in November.

This President told us he would change Washington. He said it was going to be different. Today was another example of how nothing changed and everything is the same as it ever was. The House pushed through an emergency $26 billion jobs bill that Democrats said would save 300,000 teachers, police and others from election-year layoffs. President Barack Obama immediately signed it into law. The troublesome thing is these people do not understand you cannot keep spending at sometime you have to cut. They never do and look like never will. If we need to give money to fund unemployment, and the stimulus then somebody has give back. We understand losing 300,000 teachers and police is bad. Does anyone really believe that number? Does anyone think the union would let it happen? This one-day expensive session was a giveaway to teacher union and another example of wasteful Washington spending. The vote was 247-161 the only good news is the aid for the states is to be paid for mostly by closing a tax loophole used by multinational corporations and by reducing food stamp benefits for the poor. The legislation provides $10 billion to school districts to rehire laid-off teachers and an additional $16 billion would extend for six months increased Medicaid payments to the states. That would free money for states to meet other budget priorities, including keeping more than 150,000 police officers and other public workers on the payroll. Today your government spent another $26 billion they did not have to give money to states that already spent it and factored into their budgets when will it end when does it stop?

When it comes to staying at hotel or a motel there is only one factor, cost. If you had the money you would always stay at a hotel. We tried to convince our self that there is no difference. We based this on when you are on vacation you are never in your room. This did not work because when you are in your room you are in a motel. The hotel has plenty of nice amenities the motel might have an ice machine and a candy machine. Hotels for the most part are kept up to date and freshly painted especially the major chains. Motels are old dingy and usually run down. The last motel we stayed at had an actual key for the room, a key you cannot get any more old school than that. We always say after we stay in a motel and deal with these things along with a creepy pool, other guests with five to eight kids. That leads to the other thing about motels the room’s walls a paper thin. When you stay a hotel you can make as much noise as you want but also not be kept up at night by the next room. Still the only reason is cost and the motels was $97 the hotel was $148, but maybe we should have stayed a day less and had a better nights sleep.
