American Idol Season 11 dropped this week and as much as they say fresh it really is the same old thing. The problem is America cannot get enough. The first two nights averaged 18 million people during the first three hours. The first two locations Savanah and Pittsburgh were new lcoations but people travel far and wide for their shot. We have noticed that the amount of bad singers has dropped at least in the beginning. It seemed in years past the over the top performers, the outlandish costumes and bad singers were highlighted more than anyone with talent. This turns out to be opposite were they sent a little more than 70 people to Hollywood with the famous golden ticket and we heard a lot of those auditions. They have added a video blog reel of the upcoming people to audition as they wait in line, make the commute, and film a package. The show is still crisp, sharp, appealing and does not mess with the success. The proof is in the ratings as even a low number of 18 million down from last year is double the finale ratings for the X Factor. You know you have a winner when week one auditions are double the newest thing on your network. This will heat up after the Super Bowl as The Voice returns and giving three nights a week to have never heard from again sing to you might be asking a lot.

We watched the finale of Entourage as it came to close after eight seasons. We had thought the last couple of seasons the show had lost the sizzle. We were hoping maybe there would be a spinoff of the Ari character. They dismantled the show over the last six epidodes and wrapped it up in a nice little bow to bring it to a close. We saw Ari relationship fall apart to where the only choice was quit the business to save his love life. We saw turtle finally make it big on his own, even though if it was not for Vince and Marc Cuban he would have been out in the cold. Johnny Drama nailed a much wanted TV show at $20K per episode and a prime time movie on the number one network. The six season saga of Eric and Sloan ended, started, ended and finished with Eric quitting the business, Sloan pregnant and the two of them flying off to somewhere together to figure it out. Vince finally met the one and came full circle to make sure he did not let her get away. The finale was full of each guy going to bat for the other and in the end they stood together better than when they started, but still in each others corner.
We wanted to make sure you were aware of the Untitled Jersey City Project. This is a unique experiment in the development of an entertainment concept: it?s a work-in-progress television drama. There will be eight short-form episodes as you watch the story is set amidst the fast-developing Jersey City waterfront, just across the river from Manhattan. A shining new city is being built on the edge of this gritty town. But while the glass office towers and condos are sleek and new, the rules of the game haven?t changed one bit. Episode one is out and it rocks it will draw you in and grab you by the back of the neck. You will want more trust us. The characters are hip, cool people you care about, the story line is going to get hot you can just tell. The end of Rescue Me went out with more of a fizzle than a bang. The best part of the show was you never knew when Tommy was in real time or in his mind. Everyone knows that inside that mind is a deep dark place. When you match up a series final against others the Rescue Me finale will go down as the series was headed to an end with about four weeks to go. The bottom line is the finale is what is remembered and as the second to last show ended we did not know anyone’s fate. The show started with a funeral for five firefighters and the lieutenant giving a rousing eulogy. This was in Tommy’s mind as we find the reserve is true the Lieutenant is died and the firehouse is wounded but still together. Tommy struggles with all this and needs to retire as the weight of everything is crashing down on him. The relationship between everyone Tommy deals with changes as he struggles with his choice to move on. Watching Tommy tries to adapt to a life without work and being there for his family. There is a famous final scene of Tommy and Lou driving away but many questions are raised. Did Tommy quit fighting fires? Does he only train recruits? Is he still part of 62? He did call Franco his boss. How does Tommy see Lou to drive away with in the end, or has he come to grips with talking to dead people as if they never left his life.
This is a great week for FX even if it is bittersweet. We have the end of Rescue Me after seven seasons on Wednesday but before that the return of SOA. The boys of Charming return from prison and on to the screen as Sons of Anarchy makes a return for season four. This season will see how the bike club will recover from double crossing the IRA and getting into bed with Russians. Where is the relationship going between Jakes and the doctor? They are coming back to town after a fourteen month bid for violating parole. The state of the local police was in question and have they drawn attention of federal authorities now that their reach has gone across the pond to another continent. This might be the best show on television for the crew at Tea512 as it seems to be the one we look forward to the most. We have seen a lot of our favorites disappear as 2011 sees the end of Friday Night Lights, Rescue Me and Lie To Me. The good news is we get a full season of SOA and you had better hold on tight because it always bumpy ride. The best thing about Sons is the as the show plot develops you think you understand where it is going but they always have a secret you do not see coming. There are always twists and turns that make you stay on the edge of your seat. Welcome back to Charming.
Welcome back to Rescue Me as we watch the seventh and final season. There were a couple of changes that we have not heard any reason for them to happen. First the show was moved to Wednesday night and the series finale is scheduled for September seventh. It was reported last year that the finale was going to be on September eleventh on the tenth year anniversary of the one epic event that dominates the show. We are glad the Gavin’s are back and the first show did not disappoint as all the dysfunction has made relationships blur and friendships even blurrier. We watched the opener that saw Black Sean propose causing the Katy to fall off the wagon. We saw the bar change hands, get shot up and emptied out once again. The Shelia and Janet relationship has changed as well as Tommy interaction with both. Both women have loved and slept with him. We only saw one visit from the dead as Tommy seeing his daughter passed out drunk made him take a drink. After the ghosts of his cousin, brother and father tell him not to fight the urge he spits out the booze and shoots up the bar. Hang on this was just week one and we have a run to a finale that is going to a heart stopper all along the way.
Larry David is bringing his crazy world back to HBO and just when you think he has no third rails left to touch, he finds them. Curb your Enthusiasm season eight has come back on fire. These seasons opens right where the last ended. Not only in the same scene but enough to make you remember where you were and what happened last year. After the first two weeks we have seen him try to help a teenage girl with her first menstruation and insensitive to battered women that was before he turn on his friends. He broke up one friends marriage then staked out another friends girlfriend working as a stripper. Then moves to spook the people that live in his own house he finally had to file for divorce as Cheryl could no longer stand his impulsive need to never let it go. He live in roommate has caused the arrest of an innocent man and has a report with the police as being accused of assault. We have to see how the season plays out with Larry as he tries to find his way as a single guy. It is amazing how Larry can push the envelope, say the wrong thing, never let it go, and always makes total strangers infuriated with him.
Friday Night Lights has turned off the lights after five seasons, and one of the best shows no one talks about is going away. We have hardly found scripted television that we are truly sad when the episode ends and you cannot wait for the next week. Friday night Lights was one of those shows. Everyone goes that has gone to high school knows that football players and cheerleaders are huge stars. The thing about FNL was you had seen that all that admiration is so in toxic people can never recover. The whole town supports the team and puts the players on a pedestal telling them they are great. Over the five year run we see this high school success does not translate into later success. The players are great as a team but when they graduate they are only getting offers from small third tier colleges. The only player over the run of the show to go to big time was Smash Williams playing for Texas A&M. the rest are left to find their own way, they all walk around town with a championship ring from state and use that as a way to stay a hero for ever. Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on May 5, 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on May 30, 1868. Ironton, Ohio has the nation’s oldest continuously running Memorial Day parade; it has been a tradition since 1868.On the Thursday before Memorial Day, the 1,200 soldiers of the 3d U.S. Infantry place small American flags at each of the more than 260,000 gravestones at Arlington National Cemetery. In 1951, the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of St. Louis began placing flags on the 150,000 graves at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery as an annual Good Turn, a practice that continues to this day. In 1998, on the Saturday before Memorial Day, the Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts place a candle at each of approximately 15,300 grave sites of soldiers buried at Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park on Marye’s Heights. Congress made the day into a three-day weekend with the creation of the National Holiday Act of 1971.
The Big Love series finale was nonstop angst right to the end. When you look back over the five season of this show there was never too many happy moments. The Henrickson never had a moment where their world was not in turmoil even during celebration. We watched as they rode the wave all the way and fought every battle head on. We watched as Bill pushed the envelope time after time and tried to make a new road for polygamy. No matter what road they tried to take for the advancement the old demons always meet them along the way for sabotage. The best part about the series finale was when Bill Henrickson died it was not at the hand of Roman Grant, Albie Grant, Hollis Green, Bud Mayberry, his own wives, Frank Harlow, brother Joey or his wife Wanda, Rhonda Volmer, of the countless politicians, businessman and bankers he rubbed the wrong way. In the end what took Bill Henrickson was a simple dispute between neighbors. We were big fans of the show and often told people it is hard enough to have one wife imagine three. The show was ground breaking and more than likely the reason there can be a reality show sister wives having any interest. The show had run the course and never jumped the shark but there really nowhere to go based on how the fifth season was laid out.
We wanted to make you aware the Whistler Dogs story, if you have not heard the news regarding the outdoor adventures company that offers dog sled rides being accused of having up to 100 of their sled dogs killed to cut costs following a downturn in business. The owner of the Whistler Company that allegedly had 100 sled dogs slaughtered to cut costs after the Olympics will speak for the first time following reports of the tragedy. Outdoor Adventures Joey Houssian has scheduled a number of media meetings along with his lawyers, and had a “letter to the editor” published in the Vancouver Sun. Joey Houssian, in his first sit-down interview since news of the killings sparked headlines and outrage around the world, told The Globe and Mail that his company knew nothing about the scale of the slaughter, when the dogs were killed, or the manner in which they were killed until late last month. Houssian points to “discrepancies” in the WorkSafeBC reports filed by the employee who allegedly completed the “execution” of the dogs. Houssian adds he can’t say much about what happened as investigations into the case move forward. “While the facts and legal responsibility for them is being investigated, I take moral responsibility for everything that happens within my company,” Houssian wrote.
When you can take a shot at CNN it is worth the post. The neilson ratings for the new Piers Morgan’s show are dropping to the obscure. Everyone thought it was going too alright and during the debut show on January 17 there was 2.1 million viewers that show did have Oprah Winfrey. Day two the rating dropped by 50% and before the month closed it dropped another 50% from that. We are going out on limb here but by the middle of next week it could dip below 500 thousand viewers. The lowest rated show so far had a couple of guests that automatically bring viewers and eye traffic of any male that just happens to scan by. The Thursday night show has two Kardashians girls talking about their breasts fake or real and sex tapes, could not bring eyeballs to the screen. We are going to give the show time but wonder how much CNN can hold on. Losing Larry King and his octogenarian following has made a replacement not only difficult but they might have to look at this choice as a loser based on the loss of audience. They thought they could move him right in and Larry King guests and audience would follow along this was a major over estimation.
FX makes the best free television. The only channel that compares is HBO that you pay for. The finale of Sons of Anarchy was the closing finale we had not expected. In past finales they leave a hanger that leaves you wanting more and waiting for a new season. This year was different they closed all the lose ends and delivered it all in a nice bow on top. It was the first finale where the guys actually pull off the perfect plan. The first season finale say them all going to jail, the second say Abel the son kidnapped and disappearing. This finale was a combination of both of those things with a twist. At one point you thought they were all headed back to jail and earlier you thought they lost the son for good. We do not need to spell it out as it was a finale for the ages reminiscent of a Sopranos finale where the people that cause the disruption weather they are righteous or evil pays the ultimate price in the end. This show has lifted itself to must see status to becoming one of the favorite shows around the office. When Rescue Me finishes up next year it will be the best show on free TV.

It looks like the U.S. Supreme Court is weighing the first RIAA file sharing case. We hope that when the docket is set for the next session, the so-called “innocent infringer” case will be heard. The copyright infringement case pending before the justices was over the February decision ordering a university student to pay the RIAA $27,750for sharing 37 tracks at $750 a track when she was a high school cheerleader. There have been an estimated 20,000 individuals the RIAA has sued for file-sharing music. The petition to review the appellate court ruling challenge weighs whether the innocent-infringer defense to the Copyright Act’s minimum charge of $750 per track fine may apply to online file sharing. If you did not know the innocent infringer is someone who does not know she or he is committing copyright infringement. The chances are slim as the high court usually grants less than one percent of petitions sent to it. We think it is pretty hard to think that a person who is stealing music in the first place, does not know they are haring with others. We hate the RIAA for the way they went about crushing the little people to make a statement.

The Tea512 gang went to Slash at the House of Blues and to say it was a blast is an understatement. If you had ever seen Guns N Roses back in the day it was also a full throttle high octane show. There were a lot of moving parts and plenty to see. Looking back on that now the greatness of Slash might have been lost. This is not the case for the Slash solo show he tore it up and loud. The two hour set contained songs from the new solo album, Slash’s Snakepit, Velvet Revolver and GNR classics. Halfway through the set he stood on the stage by himself and ripped up an ear splitting guitar solo with the trademark Godfather theme. To say it was the best show we have seen in years is not saying much as we have not seen any rock and roll bands. We say that because when you see a guy like Slash you realize what rock and roll used to be and what we are pretending it is today. If you get a chance to see Slash do not miss it, this is a show that when you wake up the next morning you were really glad you were there because it was everything rock and roll is supposed to be.
