Healthcare Fallout 1- Get a Doctor

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

We have been hearing Dick Morris say since the beginning of Healthcare debate the biggest problem was going be lack of doctors. The truth in that statement is actually becoming a real concern. Primary care physicians which are already in short supply and healthcare overhaul will bring millions more newly insured patients means an extra strain. The AP say there is a published report that there is a shortfall of roughly 40,000 primary care doctors over the next decade. The first step of rationed care is you may never see a doctor again as the new system could be access to one doctor using a team of nurses, physician assistants and disease educators working together; these teams could see more people while giving extra attention to those who need it most. This is called the medical home model. Right now only 30 percent of doctors practice primary care. The government says 65 million people live in areas designated as having a shortage of primary care physicians, places already in need of more than 16,600 additional providers to fill the gaps. The next step in everyone get healthcare but never sees a doctor is the Web-based service named My Preventive Care that lets the practice’s patients link to their electronic medical record, answer some lifestyle and risk questions, and receive an individually tailored list of wellness steps to consider. This as much as President Obama said Healthcare will stay the same for most individuals is proof the Health care system we know is die for big changes and uncharted waters.
