No Nukes in the 80’s Yes Nukes in the 2010

My how times have changes the leader of the Democrat party President Barack Obama is endorsing nuclear energy. The spending plan for the next budget year is expected to include billions of more dollars in federal guarantees for new nuclear reactors. This is an amazing about face as he is also calling for a new generation of nuclear power plants. It was not long ago this administration pledged to close Yucca Mountain, the planned multibillion-dollar burial ground in the Nevada desert for high-level radioactive waste. They also have been criticized for a slow rollout of $18.5 billion in loan guarantees to spur investment in new nuclear power plants, and the administration killed a Bush-era proposal to reprocess nuclear fuel. Where Jackson Browne and Carly Simon is, remember how much they hated Nukes in the late 70’s. They had concerts even made a movie and here the person the age of those protesters who was dreamed they could change the world in the same vein that Woodstock Vietnam war protesters thought they could change the world. We will see if this is just lip service as we are expected the administration seeks $54 billion in additional loan guarantees for nuclear power in his 2011 budget request to Congress on Monday. This is going to one of those times in history when a fundemantial change is a position for the democrats based on the truth they were wrong all along and OPEC has laughed all they way to the bank.
