The flood of election campaign ads start around June and hit full boar around September. That all could change as we could soon see Super Bowl-style ads promoting congressional and presidential candidates, these would be paid for by large corporations. The Supreme Court is going to rule on both business and union money being used for congressional and presidential campaigns advertising. The ruling on Citizens United v. FEC, 08-205expected as early as Tuesday would let corporations, unions and wealthy individuals pour money into elections in time for the congressional races, and the 2012 presidential contest. This could be anything from Supreme Court giving corporations, unions, and activist groups funded by wealthy donor’s ability to run election-time ads for or against candidates. The law now bans unions and incorporated entities such as businesses, trade associations, and interest groups from donating to national party committees and congressional and presidential campaigns. It also prohibits, close to elections, the airing of aids that urge voters to support or oppose federal candidates. The truth is both parties are full of wealthy people willing to write million dollar plus checks. This is a game changer and will shut out the little guy even more than they already have been.
