Massachusetts to outlaw Bullying
Massachusetts congress is trying to combat school bullying is through legislation. The measure is being proposed by Democratic State Representative John Rogers. Rogers represents the Twelfth Norfolk district. That is consisting of the town of Norwood and Walpole that are both in the county of Norfolk. He is a lawyer by trade and has been in the House since 1993. He has been the Majority Leader since 2005. The Legislature finds that a safe and civil environment in school is necessary for students to learn and achieve high academic standards. The Legislature finds that harassment, intimidation or bullying, like other disruptive or violent behavior, is conduct that disrupts both a student’s ability to learn and a school’s ability to educate its students in a safe, non-threatening environment. The legislature charges school administrators, faculty, staff, and volunteers with demonstrating appropriate behavior, treating others with civility and respect, and refusing to tolerate harassment, intimidation or bullying. Is it us or is this insane when will a legislature at any level learn you cannot legislate things like this. They can make the feel good legislation but who is supposed to enforce this nonsense? Don’t those people in charge do that already? Bullying is a right of passage that makes you who you are standing up to a bully or learning to avoid them is a life lesson that has been with us since the prehistoric era 200,000 years ago. Some mamby pamby lawyer with the right to make a law is going to stop it by threatening school administrators, faculty, staff, and volunteers, no wonder people hate politicians.
