HR 3962 The night that never was
There was hope small hope that HR3962 would not pass. We know that Pelosi never would have brought it to the floor if she did not have the 218 needed. We do not believe she thought it was going to be as close as the final vote. The 220-215 vote was touch and go for most of the first eight minutes of voting. When there were only ten Democratic votes that remained they had 212 and we all watched hoping the last five would split down the middle. They did not and after the voting was closed one Republican, that is right a Republican Joseph Cao from Louisiana strolled up to the electronic voting device and was the lone Republican who voted in support of the measure. The bill passed that will cut Medicare’s projected spending by more than $400 billion over a decade. It also imposes a tax surcharge of 5.4 percent on income over $500,000 in the case of individuals and $1 million for families. The play of the night was the Stupak Amendment this paved they way to let Democrats be able to vote for the bill by cutting the government funded abortion out of the plan. This insured the votes to pass and do not mean it will not come back in committee. All in all it was a bad night for you pocket, our deficit, Medicare, and Republicans but there is a road map for 2012 of who the enemy from with in are. We wake up this morning and the national healthcare system is another step closer to becoming a national nightmare.
