Neighbors want Constitution to stand down
It is incorrigible to think that upper crust people can buy homes that look out over the Charlestown side of the Atlantic Ocean where the U.S.S. Constitution sits and they want the ship to be neutered. It is like the people who buy a home near an airport and want them to stop flying the planes over their house. Since 1975 the U.S.S. Constitution The legendary, 204-foot-long battleship has fired a rotation of cannon blasts at 8AM and then again at sunset. There are 44 guns on the ship and they use a different one every time to keep them all in working condition. Turns out neighbors in the newly built upper crust condo complex would like them to cut it out in the morning and on weekends. They have invited the commanding officer of the USS Constitution over for a glass of wine so he can hear for himself that the frigate’s twice-daily cannon blast from their perspective. Can it be any louder then where he usually is placed on the boat when the daily shooting of a four-foot blast takes place. The condos where built in the old Charlestown Navy Shipyard which had been down sized in the last twenty years. This of course is prime waterfront real estate that has a great view of the Boston skyline in the shadow of the Bunker Hill monument. If they win this then maybe they can move the Bunker Hill monument next as it must block the sun for a few minutes everyday. The people that requested this we just do not understand but we know the request itself makes us really angry.
