Crooked Charles Rangel Can Stay
In an administration that the head of the treasury is a tax cheat is it any surprise that the head tax-writing Ways and Means Committee, Representative Charles Rangel the New York Democrat is able to keep his post. This was third time the House Republicans tried to oust Rangel as chairman. They were able to once again highlight and keep the spotlight on his ethical problems. The vote 246-153 was mostly along party lines. The GOP resolution to remove Rangel to the House ethics committee could not pick up steam as the Democratic counter was to wait for the ethics committee to finish conducting a long-term investigation of his conduct. This has been a year in the making and is investigating both Rangel’s financial and fundraising activities. There are allegations of financial improprieties, including failure to pay taxes on investment income and neglecting to report assets and income on his congressional financial disclosure forms. Six Democrats in addition to Rangel are also under investigation by the House ethics committee there is also one Republican. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once promised to drain the swamp of unethical conduct. This promise is not working out so well. The problem these people never think anything they do is wrong, they never are accountable, and if you do not protest this with your vote, there is no accountability.
