Jay-Z has stayed relevant through the many changes of hip hop and rap. He started out in music with his first release in 1996 and has been very successful. He has made a fortune through his record label as CEO of Def Jam records. He kept a relationship with Beyonce out of the limelight. He then married Beyonce on the hottest and talented women on the planet. The truth is when Jay-Z real name Shawn Corey Carter, sets his mind on something he can move mountains to make it happen. If have not heard his new single it is called D.O.A., Death of Auto-Tune. Most people did not know what Auto-Tune is and in his desire to destroy it Jay-Z has only made it stronger. Auto-Tune, is a software designed to allow engineers to correct any singer so they have perfect pitch. The software was created and sold by Antares Audio Technologies. The company had seen a boost in business since the release of the song by Jay-Z. The song lyrics and content are against the overuse in popular music. Sometimes the best laid plans of mice and men. We do not have sales figures and of course we do not know how widespread the use of the program is in popular music.
This week Katherine Marie Heigl born on November 24, 1978 in Washington D.C and grew up in New Canaan, CT. She was last years number five on the Tea512 smokin sasses of 2008. She was one of the first women we highlighted when we started the women of the week. Katherine is best known for her Emmy Award winning role in Grey’s Anatomy. Our favorite movie role for her was in the movie Knocked Up. She was the Most Desirable Woman of 2008, according to AskMen.com. She is in the new for the release of her new movie The Ugly Truth, which opened on July 24. She has also decided to return to Grey’s Anatomy after the end of the 2009-2010 seasons. She has taken a couple shots at her role in Knocked Up saying the male characters are witty and the woman characters are over emotional. This has started a war through the media with co-star Seth Rogen. Katherine is currently filming the Lionsgate thriller Five Killers, opposite Ashton Kutcher. She has signed on to star in and produce Life As We Know It about a woman and a man whose best friends die in a car accident and are left to share in caring for the deceased’s orphaned daughter. She is still amazingly beautiful and a great actress. Katherine is mesmerizing on the big screen or small and is tough to take your eye off her. The club scene in 27 Dresses where she hops on the bar and sings Bennie and the Jets is a classic and proves she is every guys dream girl as perfection in motion.

After eight years of war in Afghanistan and Iraq there have been around 4,000 members of the U.S. military killed in action. There have been more than 34,000 wounded. We find out this weekend that only six have been considered worthy of America’s highest military award for battlefield valor the Medal of Honor. The Pentagon claims laser-guided missiles destroy enemy positions and Insurgents do not engage in firefights. Representative Duncan Hunter filed legislation that directs the defense secretary Robert Gates to review current trends in awarding the Medal of Honor to determine the low count. The bill passed the House If Senate negotiators go along, Secretary. The numbers are as follows The Medal of Honor has been awarded 3,467 times since the Civil War. The first 1,522 were awarded in the Civil War where 620,000 soldiers lost their lives. There were 464 during World War II and we lost 416,800 total troops in battle. There was 244 handed out in the Vietnam War and the casualty loss was 47,424. The criteria are two eyewitnesses have to view an outstanding deed that clearly distinguishes gallantry above and beyond the call of duty. Nominations find their way to the highest level of the Pentagon and then to the president. There have only been seven nominations in these conflicts and six have received the medal.

The U.S. General Stanley McChrystal’s in charge of the war in Afghanistan is recommending a request for more U.S. forces. The reassessment of the war against Taliban insurgents aims for a counterinsurgency strategy of clearing and holding populated areas. There is no doubt that the White House will resist such an action. The general calls for a change in how U.S. and foreign troops operate including how they live and travel among the Afghan population to where and how they fight. The need for a ramp up in the training of Afghan soldiers and police and double their numbers to around 400,000. President Barack Hussein Obama will not want to add new numbers to U.S. forces as he already sent 21,000 troops there earlier this year. The need is to use intelligence less to hunt insurgents and more to understand local, tribal and social power structures in the areas where they operate. This comes on the heels of the UN report that 310 Afghan civilians have been killed a rise of 24 percent this year. Bombings by insurgents and airstrikes by international forces are to blame. The hard numbers right now is there are 62,000 U.S. troops, 39,000 allied troops, and 175,000 Afghan Army and police. The perfect number is somewhere between 300,000 to 600,000, including U.S., NATO and Afghan forces. The biggest jump is the call for 400,000 to be Afghan Army and police. The end of this year with troop deployments already approved the U.S. presence will be 68,000. This is double the size of the U.S. force when Obama took office. When he campaigned to stop the war in Iraq did he say he was going to send all the troops to Afghanistan? The human out cry to stop the war on street corners and college campuses has been over causing traffic tie ups and unrest. Sorry our bad these people only protest war when President Bush is in office. They have been missing since January 20th so this might not be a real war.
