Governor Tim Pawlenty at the RNC

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty will speak at the Republican National Committee meeting in California. The two-term fiscal and social conservative is laying all the groundwork for a Presidential bid on 2012. He is already headlining GOP fundraisers, as well as having an influential job as the number two man in the Republican Governors Association. He is only 48 years of age and already has close to twenty years of service in government. The path is simple just get out there and press the flesh because the name recognition on the retreads is hard to ignore. This more than likely means a run against Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee. He is contemplating forming a political action committee as he has been seen in Washington, Arkansas and Colorado. You need to get your name out there and the only good news for Pawlenty is he is relatively unknown and when compared to the field he has not ever run before for the White House. The Republican candidate has always been a spot that has been waiting for someone, Reagan moved out of the way for Nixon, Dole moved out of the way for Bush 1, and McCain moved out of the way for Bush 2. Eventually the person that does the right thing will get their shot; Mitt Romney moved out of the way for McCain, we do not know if that applies. In the other cases the person steps aside to do the good party thing so you can start building on the positive moving toward the election. If candidates keep, fighting against each other it only helps the other party and lessons the chance of victory. There could be something said for Romney stepping away from the fight as Huckabee stayed to the end.

President Obama cuts 0.0102% from budget

Well at least someone in Washington is listening to a request from President Barack Hussein Obama. He certainly has had his hands full with congress, the budget office and autoworkers union. The job of getting people to find his way of doing things the best way has not been an easy sell. The one place he can crack the whip is the cabinet heads. If you recall in April he demanded each department head trim $100 million from their budgets. The goal has been reached as there was $102 million reduced from 2009 budget and a projected $165 million for 2010. A few of the highlights are a cancelled meeting in Australia for the Agriculture Department, the Commerce Department will not have office renovations, FEMA turning loose 120,000 temp housing units, Treasury Department will shred and recycle classified materials rather than burning them, and The Justice Department will make their own travel arrangements and cut out the travel agents. We should not lose sight of the fact that $102 million dollar savings when the budget already approved by Congress in March was for $1 trillion. We know this is only 0.0102% but these folks in Washington a cutting cost just like the rest of us real Americans.

Great to be a Republican

This is why it is great to call yourself a Republican and conservative. The House Republicans today unveiled a $700 billion health care plan that would offer tax credits to help people buy insurance, without the requirement either individuals or employers to have coverage. The problem with Democrats over the last eight years was they loved to deny the Republican’s plan but always lacked one of their own. We are starting to see why since they have returned to power. They all fight to get so much pork in everything they pass it turns them against each other. There is talk on capital hill that Speaker Pelosi used up so many favors to get Cap N trade through the House she had nothing to offer on Healthcare. Is that not a sad commentary when your own party needs to barter and trade squeezing everything from each other just to agree? The Democratic Party reminds us of a boat making circles in the water as every oar is going in a different direction. You would think as they sit with control of Executive, Senate and House they would all put the oars in the water and stroke in the same direction causing the country and the world to follow. This is not the case as they just keep cutting each other off, smacking their oars into each other and blaming everyone but the man in the mirror.

Vice President Biden set back Russian Relations

Vice President Joe Biden called Russia a weakened nation. This is another chance for the administration to put a gag order on the Vice President or permanently leave his foot in his mouth. Vice President Biden said that the Russian economic difficulties are likely to make the Kremlin more willing to cooperate with the United States on a range of national security issues. We do not think this play was in the White House play book. It was only three weeks ago that President Barack Hussein Obama was in Moscow and asked for and was hopeful for a strong, peaceful, and prosperous Russia. Say it aint so Joe, can you just here the administration.  There was a response from the Kremlin, they were very confused about who is shaping U.S. foreign policy? The Russian newspapers put the story on most of the front pages Monday, with headlines casting doubt on Washington’s commitment to a constructive relationship with Moscow. You have to wonder how many times is President Barack Hussein Obama going to be asked if he thought VP Biden had gone too far in his remarks. THere is only so far he is going to get by saying “What the VP was trying to say” like he and the rest of the staff do every time he does these things.

Stimulus money flushed away

President Barack Hussein Obama can be proud his stimulus bill and the money that is being used to create jobs and stimulate the economy where it counts. Today we find out that the Federal government is spending tens of millions of stimulus dollars to repair and build toilets across the nation. The money has been set a side for outhouses and restrooms to spruce up or completely replace aging toilets. You see these facilities in government buildings, roadside rest areas and in public parks. The biggest spender for the new restrooms is New Mexico, spending $2.8 million for toilets in national forests. Does this solve the problem of where bears go? The government has seen multiple agencies grab at this cash the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Veterans Affairs Administration, and even the Army. They are jumping under the umbrella of the Americans with Disabilities Act. They are using this as the crutch to update older facilities. This kind of stimulus growth to our economy is going to help create jobs one bathroom at a time. The best part is after the bathroom is built and the workers are out of work again. When they are homeless, they will have plenty of spiffy new bathrooms to use all around the nation.

President Obama Politics of Politics

President Barack Hussein Obama passed the stimulus bill, there is $1 billion in aid to help cities, and states keep police officers working and avoid layoffs during the economic downturn. The aid looks to be a little short because for every $1 to be delivered, another $7 has been requested. There is not enough under the grant program, Community Oriented Policing Services(COPS). This is hitting New York, Houston, Seattle and Pittsburgh the hardest as the Justice Department ruled that other parts of the country are in more need. There have been 7,000 state and local agencies bellying up to the trough for aid under the COPS program. Close to 1,000 have been approved and each state is entitled to at least $5 million in COPS money. The Justice Department decided the most worthy cities were those that faced serious budgetary problems and those that have relatively high crime rates. The Justice Department estimates the grant awards will help hire 3,818 new officers, and keep 881 existing positions. Under the COPS program, the federal government pays the officers’ salary and benefits for three years, after which the local government is responsible for the costs. Let us not cry for New York as it has received some money from a different stimulus program this year to the tune $29 million. Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder are going to appear in Philadelphia on Tuesday to announce the grant awards.

Twitter Flushes Spammers

There was a flushing of the system over at twitter on Friday night. Twitter was doing some house cleaning by cracking down and removing spam accounts and bots that automatically follow people. We received reports of people dropping anywhere from 25 to 125 followers. The good news is these were not real people and technically were not you for content anyway. This is not the first Twitter purged spam account on their system. The Spam accounts on Twitter are clogging the system and becoming a problem Twitter needed to address. WE believe this is a going to become a regular experience much like the way Google flexes its muscle through page rank. The question becomes how they decided who to chop, there must have been some type of standard. There are sources that are saying that the majority of the followers got removed, including some definitely legitimate ones, we have not heard or seen anyone with a legit account complain that their account was deleted. Twitter Blog reported users with large followings may see significant changes as we correct for spam accounts and data inconsistencies. We might not have even noticed except the trending topics appeared Spammers Perish and How Many Followers. There was no warning and we do not know what offenders did to be noticed. The new reality is someone is watching what you do and if it is wrong you are gone. This also could have been just them removing the accounts that were not used or suspended either on.

Summer Glau rise of a beauty

This week we are highlighting Summer Lyn Glau who was born in San Antonio, Texas on July 24, 1981. We really enjoyed her work in the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles but that show was cancelled. We are not a big comic book fan, but the news came out over the weekend at Comcon that Summer will appear in the Fox show Dollhouse. Summer is not only an actress but a classically trained dancer. She received a scholarship to a ballet company and but serious ankle injury ended her dancing career. Summer then moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career in 2002. This is how things can come full circle she was cast as a ballerina in Joss Whedon’s Angel and then cast her in Firefly. He is the Creator, Writer, Director, and Executive Producer of Dollhouse. Summer is smoking hot on the screen and has a great icy stare. She has a great body and is a presence on the small screen no matter what is happening in the scene. Shr can throw done as well as most of her roles have been action based which makes her even hotter. We are glad that Summer is getting work and although we missed the first season of Dollhouse we will catch up and make sure we watch when Summer appears.

President Obama $5B for Schools

President Barack Hussein Obama is whipping out the US Mint credit card again. This time it is the promise of $5 billion in grants pressuring states to embrace his ideas for overhauling the nation school system. The program includes performance pay for teachers and development of charter schools. The program is called Race To The Top. We have seen when President Obama uses the magnetic stripe of our tax money the states will all fall in line. Seven states out of the box to the trough are Tennessee, Rhode Island, Indiana, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Colorado and Illinois. These have all lifted restrictions on charter schools so they can compete for the money. The states are a republic and because of that it is hard for Washington to demand things in education. The leverage is the ability to reward states that follow and withhold money from those states that do not participate. The $5 billion was included in the economic stimulus package, as there was a $100 billion included for schools. The Teachers union is a strong ally to democrats and President Barack Hussein Obama. The conditions of this program are going to be tough to swallow for a lot of Democratic base. This will be a pretty good fight when the rubber meets the road. Things like no award money to states that bar student performance data. The program also supports performance pay, which links teacher bonuses to student achievement using measures that include test scores. Applications for these grants will be available in October and due by December, the first checks should be roll out in March 2010.
