House Democrats are drafting health care legislation they are putting on the table a financial penalty for anyone who refuses to purchase affordable health insurance and a new tax on certain health insurance benefits. This is to help pay for expanding coverage to the uninsured. Final decisions are expected next week on these and other proposals. The government-run insurance option has the support President Barack Obama will meet Tuesday afternoon at the White House with several legislatures. Democratic leaders hope to pass legislation in both houses by the first few days of August. To finance President Obama plan to spread coverage will cost estimated at more than $1 trillion over the next ten years. This is a slippery slope for President Obama who said he would not raise taxes on families earning less than $250,000 a year. The issue of a government insurance option could make it hard for private companies to compete, and only available as a last resort if health insurance remains unaffordable for many families even after Congress overhauls the system. This will be epic as President Obama has played both sides of the fence and the issue will cut his base which ever way it goes. Taxing Healthcare means a tax hike for people making less than $250k and government insurance is another notch in the socialism belt.
