Micro-Billing is the World of Cellphones

Cellphone users are downloading tens of millions of games, songs, ring tones, and video programs to their mobile phones. They are paying money for these multimedia nuggets of fun. Most of these same people will not pay for on their computer. We saw at the Las Vegas Cellphone annual trade show, the phone industry is about to push new software stores, video players, games and content. One of the reasons is micro payments, which phone providers have been using for years. Nickels and dimes are a pain to charge over the internet and usual cost more than the transaction. The phone company has been nickel and diming for years. Piper Jaffray, published a report recently saying it expected consumers to spend $13 billion on downloads to their phones in 2012, up from $2.8 billion this year. Content developers say consumers like the instant gratification of downloading on the go. Mobile TV service called MediaFlow, is expected before long to start offering broadcast channels free while charging only for premium programming, like cable shows. GetJar, also has free mobile downloads and offers some 20,000 services, including games and productivity software. The new term is a three screener, meaning you use a TV, Computer, and Cellphone to combine your multimedia experience.

Carrie Underwood Entertainer of the Year

This week we highlight number nine from last years top 51.Carrie Marie Underwood yesterday she was named Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year. She was the first women nominated in 12 years. Since winning season four of American Idol, she has released two albums sold over ten million units and has a slew of number one records. She is not only an amazing talent as a singer, she is drop-dead gorgeous. There is something else about Carrie, she never is caught in the wrong place doing something bad, never wears the wrong outfit, and never shows too much skin. When she sing it seems effortless, last night she was in a medley to start the show and she began her song All American Girl right in the middle and in a high register, usually a song like this builds warming your voice as you get to this part. She was spot on as usual and killed it without problem. She is deserving of this award as between Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, they have brought country music to fans of a whole new generation, as well as a fresh pop sound. She is beautiful with great legs, stunning eyes that draw you in and an angelic voice that can blow you away. She is the Entertainer of Year and one of the hottest looking women in country music today.

Samsung Memoir 8-megapixel cellphone

The T-Mobile Samsung Memoir is the first 8-megapixel camera-phone sold for US consumption. It retails for $250 with a two-year contract. The Memoir is black with silver trim and feels more like a camera than a phone. It sports a Xenon flash, white balance and several scene and shooting modes. They included a continuous, panorama and smile shot modes. The latter is a feature in which the camera is supposed to snap a picture only when your subject smiles. There is also blink detection to warn you when your subject blinks. Memoir is a touch-screen Smartphone that does the basics such as e-mail and mobile Web browsing. Memoir is a thin device that is sturdy and comfortable in hand. When taking a photo the small protective lens cover slides opens to a smart shooting menu. You can tap small icons to easily change shooting modes. You then can toggle between still camera and video and turn the flash on or off. There is an installed GPS with turn-by-turn directions for an extra $10 month subscription. This helps the Memoir geotagged images can be given the location where they were shot.

NATO – President Obama – New Sheriff

President Barack Obama welcomed Albania and Croatia to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and declared to other nations that the door to membership will remain open. NATO, which started 60 years ago, had a summit dominated by the war in Afghanistan. President Barack Obama is taking part in his first NATO summit and seeking support from allied nations toward efforts Afghanistan sending in more troops and civilian help. French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, embraced newU.S. leadership saying they trust him. This was clearly a shot at the Bush administration. There is still an allied reluctance to sending more troops to Afghanistan. NATO is a military alliance established by the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty on 4 April 1949 headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. There are twenty-eight members of NATO:
Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Some of the shorelines of these NATO nations are clearly in the Arctic Ocean as well as the Mediterranean Sea.

New phones 32 keys replaces 12

If you were at the Las Vegas cell phone trade show this week there are fewer and fewer cell phones with twelve digit keypads. Text messaging and wireless Internet use are now ruling the market place. United States subscribers sent 1 trillion text messages last year which is three times the 2007 volume. In relation 2.2 trillion minutes of voice calls were used which is only a rise around 5%. The last quarter of 2008 31% of all phones sold had a full alphabet keyboard. The new AT&T lineup had six new phones all with either a touch screen, or a typewriter-style keyboard, or both. Samsung Electronics introduced no new keypad phones at all. The Samsung Magnet will be in the $20-30 rage will a full keyboard. Motorola had one low-end handset with a keypad but their showstopper is the Evoke, which has a touch screen. LG Electronics displayed mostly touch screens. Sony Ericsson. And Nokia which have a small presence in the US had the most models with keypads. The future is here and it comes without having to hit a button four times to text a “z.”

Another day another Obama Tax cheater

Stop us if you heard this one before, yes you have yesterday Kathleen Sebelius, President Barack Obama’s choice for Health and Human Services secretary, admitted cheating on her taxes as she paid back the $7,000 worth of mistakes she made. Sebelius, 44th Governor of the State of Kansas. Kudos goes out to the Kansas media for tracking down the story before she was elected governor. Sorry that is right they did not know. If you are keeping track this is the fourth democrat that President Barack Obama has picked that did not pay or owed taxes. Nancy Killefer, who failed for a year and a half to pay employment taxes on household help, withdrew her candidacy to be the first chief performance officer for the federal government. We listed her first because no amount was ever given. United States Representative Hilda L. Solis, a choice for Labor secretary, had to withdraw her name due to $6,468 in county liens remained unresolved until just before confirmation hearings. The person who did get the job oddly enough running the IRS is Treasury secretary Timothy Geithner did not pay Social Security and Medicare taxes for several years while he worked for the International Monetary Fund, and he employed an immigrant housekeeper who briefly lacked proper work papers. He paid around $34,000 in back taxes before he got the job. The last and highest the first pick for Health and Human Services secretary, former Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle. He withdrew from consideration while apologizing for failing to pay $140,000 in taxes and interest. Oh those crazy liberal democrats do as I say not as I do.

Facebook expects to register 200m

Facebook expects to register its 200 millionth user within the coming week. This would mean it would have doubled it size in just eight months. When they signed up the 100 million members in August, the company threw a huge barbecue for their employees in Palo Alto, California. Facebook is the Internet dominant social ecosystem and has become an essential personal and business networking tool all over the world. The huge spike was attributed to the change into adding multiple languages, now 70% of users are not in North America. The group function has created an away for member to voice opinions and create grass roots causes for which can turn into real action. Mark Zuckerberg CEO and brain child behind FaceBook says the mission is to be used by everyone in the world to share information seamlessly. They also promise member pages would soon become even busier and more dynamic, updating automatically instead of requiring users to refresh their browsers to see new posts. Lessons to teach members to use privacy settings to manage their network so they can speak discreetly only to certain friends, like co-workers or family members, as opposed to other friends like bosses or professional colleagues. These are the thing that face FaceBook as reach 200 million members and it seems just as many hurdles and issues.

FaceBook meets PayPal

First, there was a promise that Facebook data will never been shared on other websites, then that changed with the launch of Facebook Connect. That platform allowed users to log in via FaceBook and share information. The next advance to this platform was the launch of FaceBook Connect for the iPhone. Now we have word FaceBook is looking to create a new virtual currency. When you mash the two, virtual currencies with Facebook Connect, this could make Facebook be a new marketplace for payments, as a new player against PayPal. Instead of requiring a credit card for purchases, a user would spend virtual currency purchased before hand. Then users would be more accepting of spending money on the Facebook website. The transaction fees and increased spending on Facebook could alone bring a significant amount of revenue. There have been many ideas floated for how FaceBook can harness 175 million people into cash. This might be the model to push; they have users, who are fans, or friends, of companies and brands. Direct purchases and advertising through Facebook would appeal to corporations both big and small. This would also be a way for special Facebook user only promotions to be sent through the application. The possibilities are endless from a FaceBook credit card, to a third party application that you could use FaceBook Bucks for a purchase at Amazon, much like you can with PayPal today.
