It seems even Washington DC does not know how to gear up for the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama as they expect more than 1.5 million spectators. This compares to the 300,000 who watched George Bush in 2005. The Secret Service will oversee security, including the sharpshooters, air patrols and monitoring of the city’s 5,000 surveillance cameras. The other side of the coin the private sector has already reaped benefits including restaurants throughout the city and hotels as far away as West Virginia are booked. This of course does not come without locals cashing in, residents have been advertising rooms in their homes for $500 a night, parking for a camping vehicle for $80 a night, or even tent space for $100 a night. The transit system is charging $10 for commemorative tickets with Obama’s picture. The Mayor Adrian Fenty has floated the number could be as high as three million spectators. In case you were wondering the most attended inauguration was in 1965 as 1.2 million watched Lyndon B. Johnson on oddly enough January 20 ,1965.
