Gun Owners flock to Second Amendment

The stories are popping up all over the Internet since the election of Barack Obama gun sales in stores have doubled and in some cases tripled. They are seeing weekend traffic that is more than normal weekly sales. These numbers are abnormal, as they did not see a spike in sales like this after 9/11, Katrina, or Y2K. The obvious push is because people feel with a liberal president and a democratic controlled congress not only might gun laws get stiffer but also changes on the Supreme Court could lean more left. The number so far the week from 11/3 to 11/9 there was 374,000 requests for background checks. This is close to double for the same period last year. The AR-15 rifle from the Virginia Arm Company has sold out. This is a civilian version of the military M-16 automatic weapon. These are also report this happened when Bill Clinton was elected although we could not find any sources to back that up. The other piece of the puzzle is there are clearly bigger issues president-elect Obama has to deal without of the gate. The understanding is that if he has trouble-getting things moving he may he could back door small legislation to have an accomplishment. This could be something like the renewal of the ban on the automatic weapons that had lapsed in 2004.
