Daytona Beach – Remember–Drivin on the Sand

Tea512 – Daytona Beach – Growing up in the northeast, the summer is the best time of year. The other nine months of the year are hit or miss weather wise, mostly miss. Therefore, we all try to get away from cabin fever by escaping to warm weather places. I took a trip many years ago to on a red eye to Daytona Beach, Florida. I booked a hotel right on the water and could not wait for the sunrise to see the ocean. We have ocean here but it does not look as clear blue as it does in Florida. When I awoke the next morning, moving out on to the balcony, I could not believe what I was seeing. There were cars driving down the beach. These were not lifeguard patrol vehicles; they were passenger cars with people cruising down the coastline. This was one of the coolest things ever. I also knew at that moment even though I had only a rented Chevy Corsica; I needed a photo of my driving on that golden sand. Today I read a story from Orlando News that cars are sinking on the beach. It says the sand has become like powder, since there has been months with little or no rain. The problem has been getting worse of the last few years. I had not thought about this in a long time. If you can get to Daytona Beach watching the cars drive on the beach is something that will make you want get in line for a cruise. Since Daytona is full of gear heads, to begin with most of the cars on the beach are muscle cars, or the latest sports cars of the lot. There is nothing better than sitting on the balcony looking down at half naked people roasting in the sun, while cool cherry cars are driving by. I hope they get it fixed soon, it was one of those things, you do not think about, but once I remembered a smile came across my face and warm spot returned to my heart.
